5 Nigerian websites you should be scam conscious about

Published

on

In Nigeria, there’s always the easy way out of unemployment or poverty and the answer to most that it might come across to is SCAM or like we call it 419. 419 or scam is rapidly taking over the internet in Nigeria just as social media is also getting more awareness. With the use of Facebook, Twitter and Instagram scammers have somewhat found a way of making their way to their victims.

Take for example one the old scams that was mostly used in 2016, a supposed fake Nigerian customs officer account is created on Facebook, uploads a few pictures of a Customs officer in uniform (wherever they get it from) then the marketing starts. They convince you that they are customs officers and running an auction to sell out cars at a super affordable rate, imaging buying a Toyota Corolla 2017 model for N1.1 million???? Cheap yeah? well it’s a trap, then they ask you for cash transport the car to you which is always where they start extorting from you.

I have so many experiences i could share and i bet you do too, but here’s my list of 5 top websites you should be scam aware of;

  1. Jiji.ng

Just as described in the second paragraph they work in the same way and manner. They pretend to have goods for sale then tell you to pay shipping or transportation cost upfront, then they tell you that goods have been held down by customs or so that you’d have to pay to have it released and so on and so on.

Caution: When trying to purchase goods do not make payments before delivery, do not meet the person in a private place (it might be a robbery setup). Always meet in a public place, don’t make payments unless proper agreement paper or  receipt is drawn out.

2. Olx.com.ng

Just like Jiji they have the same pattern and ammo.

3. Jobsng.info

Jobsng.info is another new scam website among others of the same nature. It usually has a caption that looks like “US Scholarships for African” or “Free Scholarship into the US Army for Africans”. During registration at an unsecured site, everything seems to be free, then some days later you get an email saying you have been chosen or accepted but you have to make payments for some form or something. You know what that means right? I smell scam, first scholarships are free, second scholarships are mostly based on how smart you are.

4. MMM

Ponzi scheme, what a waste of time and money. Remember MMM? Still 2016, it was hot like fire and now it’s just disappeared. I have recently spotted some new websites with the same method MMM used though i haven’t been able to put up a list but please avoid MMM-similar sites.

5. mybanknow.com

This is another level scamming. Not the regular Nigerian scam but people still fall for it. The try to obtain or get personal details in order to get access to your other accounts.

Nigerians are not fraudsters, be smart enough to identify a scam.

Horror in Ukana as Woman’s arms cut off at Akpabio’s house during illegal registration

Woman’s arms cut off at Akpabio’s house during illegal registration… abandoned to her fate
She was one of the women called to Senator Godswill Akapbio’s house in Ukana for what many present called an illegal registration exercise. She was promised a little over three thousand and like others who may not have known what they were being invited to do, she went innocently, the attraction being the measly three thousand naira she was promised.
“We were shocked when we saw people engaging in what I believe was an illegal registration exercise. There were machines all over the place, and Godswill Akpabio who had just returned from a trip outside the State was seen dishing out instructions. Some of us left the house shortly after we discovered they were asking us to register for the APC. We told them we already are card-carrying members of the PDP and that we couldn’t not sell our conscience. As that innocent lady made to leave, the gate at Senator Akpabio’s house slammed against her and her arm was cut off immediately. She started crying and writhing in pains, but to our shock, the security officers pushed her out of the house while blood was dripping all over her. I have never seen such inhumanity to a fellow person. Goodwill Akpabio was notified but he refused to come to the woman’s assistance. We had to pull our little resources to take the woman to the hospital. This is so sad. And it leaves me wondering: is this the kind of change Akpabio’s APC is bringing to Akwa Ibom: wickedness, horror and terror? May God not allow the counsel of the wicked to prevail. Akwa Ibom people must tell Godswill akpabio: no more blood-letting, enough!
